Stuart is a graduate of Flinders University in South Australia with a Bachelor of Languages Degree, an Honours Degree Bachelor of Arts, (languages and linguistics) and a Master of Language Studies Degree.

The first quarter of the year has been incredible, and I’m just getting warmed up!

What a brilliant day at the Adelaide Comic Convention and Toy Fair on April 13!

My exhibition, blending comics and storybooks in language education, was a real hit—sparking fantastic conversations with university lecturers and school teachers alike. 

It was exciting to share my Language in Action pedagogy and see such enthusiasm for visual storytelling in language learning. 

The exhibition offered valuable scholarly insights into multimodal literacy, cognitive engagement, and narrative-based learning. Language in Action continues to draw attention for its innovative integration of comics, drama, and improvisation to enhance linguistic competence, cultural awareness, and learner motivation in second-language classrooms. A true fusion of creativity and education!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by—your interest made the event a huge success!

I look forward to the next stages of my linguistics speaking tour at teaching association professional learning events in Canberra and New South Wales!

Special thanks to Lena Britton, Language Faculty (French & EAL/D), French Network Leader, Campbell High School | Education Directorate | A.C.T. Government in Canberra, for bringing me to Canberra and presenting a series of linguistic masterclasses to students at Campbell High School and teachers from the French Teachers Network participating in a professional learning event.

My teaching methodology Language in Action™ offers several advantages for enhancing second language acquisition in the classroom through its unique blending of sequential art, improvisation, language meditation, and drama.

During the tour, I had a fantastic time engaging with a highly motivated class of students and a dynamic group of French teachers.

The French students at Campbell High School received my new language class with great enthusiasm!

I'm thrilled to head back to Canberra later this year as a presenter at the Modern Language Teachers Association of the A.C.T. annual conference!

Major Tom to Ground control!

I had a fantastic time engaging with the greater Adelaide Community at The Adelaide Comic and Toy Fair curating an exhibition of languages and linguistics in science fiction comic book literature.

The exhibition provided the greater Adelaide Community an opportunity to explore the fascinating world of languages and linguistics in science fiction comics, featuring a collection of comics, characters, and memorabilia from the 1940s to the present day.

Thanks to all the teachers and language students who joined in the conversation at my expo stand about the new language class I developed using sequential art, improvisation and drama in second-language classrooms.

Exhibitions of comic book literature play a crucial role in language education. Comic books are a valuable resource for language learners as they combine visual elements with written text, making learning processes more engaging and effective.

By incorporating comic books into language education, students can improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and language skills in a fun and interactive way. Comic book exhibitions allow students to explore different cultural perspectives and storytelling styles, broadening their understanding of language and literature; they are a dynamic and creative tool for enhancing language education.

Language in Action across age demographics!

The rollout of my new language class, Language in Action™, Stuart A Blair, continued in Adelaide, South Australia, presenting French and English language learners with an exciting, innovative methodology using sequential art as the communication medium.
Sequential art is used in language lessons to enhance second language acquisition by incorporating visual storytelling. This method helps contextualise language learning, making it more engaging and memorable.
Language in Action™ is not just a class; it's an interactive experience. Learners can actively understand and retain new vocabulary and language structures by combining images and words. This dynamic approach keeps students engaged and excited about their language journey.
A fun tool used in the masterclass is a View-Master. The View-Master is a vintage tool produced in 1962 that presents three-dimensional images. It has been a popular source for viewing images for learning and entertainment for decades. The medium was the generation's version of what today's generation knows as watching a TV show or film On Demand.
For younger learners, an age-related version of a View-Master is used.

The results of the Language in Action™ class have been stunning. Students across age demographics have been able to create a short story using the target language, showcasing the effectiveness of this innovative methodology.
